2017 NCCN Oncology Case Manager and Medical Director Program™ Live Webinars

The NCCN 2017 Case Manager and Medical Director Program consists of six live webinars focused on the needs of case managers, medical directors, nurses and other health care professionals who interact with patients with cancer.

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the educational needs of case managers, nurses in other roles (i.e., quality management and utilization review), medical directors at managed care organizations, reinsurers, TPAs, and case management and disease management companies who interact with, counsel, and refer patients with cancer to appropriate sources of care and/or make coverage decisions. Programs may also be of interest to nurses, nurse navigators/care coordinators, and physicians who work directly with patients in clinical settings as well as clinical pharmacists in managed care organizations and other settings.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

Cancer 101

  • Educate patients and their caregivers on the basics of cancer and key concepts about cancer care.
  • Help patients identify the members of their multidisciplinary care team and each member’s role in cancer management.
  • Discuss the relevance of recent advances with patients and caregivers and encourage enrollment in clinical trials.

Updates in the Diagnosis and Treatment of B-cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

  • Identify the challenges involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with B-cell NHLs.
  • Summarize the recommendations outlined in the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) B-Cell Lymphoma Guidelines for the management of various subtypes of B-cell NHL.
  • Review the treatment-related toxicities and develop an effective supportive care plan to monitor and manage potential side effects in patients with B-cell NHLs.

Updates in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Colon Cancer

  • Provide an overview of the therapeutic options for patients with colon cancer.
  • Describe important disease and patient characteristics used to inform treatment decisions in patients with colon cancer.
  • Discuss survivorship care as it applies to those treated for colon cancer.

Updates in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer

  • Educate patients by providing a broad overview of lung cancer.
  • Discuss appropriate biomarker tests for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • Describe the different types of immunotherapy and targeted therapy for patients with metastatic NSCLC.

Updates in the Management of Breast Cancer

  • Provide caregivers and patients with localized breast cancer information about all available treatment options and discuss benefits versus harms for informed shared-decision making.
  • Explain the role of available genomic assays in decision-making regarding adjuvant chemotherapy and extended adjuvant endocrine therapy.
  • Describe the advances in systemic therapy options for patients with advanced breast cancer.

Transitioning from Patient with Cancer to Cancer Survivor

  • Describe common challenges patients face during the transition from active cancer treatment to survivorship.
  • Explain the potential role of survivorship care plans in optimizing the transition to the survivorship phase.
  • Discuss additional ways to facilitate a smooth transition for survivors after active cancer treatment.
