Monthly Oncology Tumor Boards: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Individualized Patient Care - Breast Cancer

Join Ingrid A. Mayer, MD, MSCI, and Ingrid Meszoely, MD, from Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center as they present their expertise on a range of cases pertaining to breast cancer.

The clinical diagnosis and management of patients with breast cancer are complex, varied, and continuously evolving. The optimal treatment of localized invasive breast cancer involves utilizing a multidisciplinary approach (radiation, systemic neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy, and supportive care) to prevent metastatic spread. The treatment decision-making process should involve a detailed discussion of the benefits and risks associated with all possible treatment strategies.

With advances in treatment, staying up-to-date with currently available therapies and supportive care issues, including management of bone health and fertility preservation, is important to optimize patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of oncologists, pathologists, nurses, pharmacists, case managers, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key patient and clinical factors that influence treatment selection for patients with locally advanced breast cancer.
  • Analyze key clinical considerations in selecting optimal treatment regimen for patients with advanced breast cancer.
  • List genetic and biological factors associated with aggressive breast cancer.

The ACCME/ANCC/ACPE defines “conflict of interest” as when an individual has an opportunity to affect CE content about products or services of a commercial interest with which he/she has a financial relationship.
