Multidisciplinary Management of Melanoma
Since immune checkpoint inhibitors and BRAF targeted therapies are now available, there are many patients with advanced melanoma who are surviving multiple lines of treatment, so the complexity of cases is increasing. There is a large volume of existing and emerging data that could be used to inform treatment selection in cases of refractory disease or brain metastases, and a wide range of NCCN Panel Member opinions regarding how these data should be used to provide more detailed guidance for selection of systemic therapy. The emergence of new systemic therapy data in patients with melanoma brain metastases has led to many discussions of how to integrate systemic therapy with other modalities typically used (radiation, surgery). Expert review of the data and presentation of different approaches to complex cases would help clinicians appreciate the range of clinical practice across NCCN Member Institutions, and highlight key considerations when presenting patients with options for treatment.
This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.
Following this activity, participants should be able to:
- Review recent data that may impact selection of therapy in patients with unresectable or distant metastatic melanoma that has progressed on or after prior systemic therapy.
- Identify multidisciplinary team members needed and patient/case characteristics that should inform treatment selection in patients with melanoma brain metastases.
- Describe the monitoring needed during systemic therapy for unresectable or distant metastatic melanoma, and how results are used to determine when to stop or switch systemic therapies.

NCCN continuing education considers “relevant financial relationships” as financial relationships in any amount occurring within the past 12 months that create a conflict of interest. NCCN does not set a minimal dollar amount for relationships to be significant. Inherent in any amount is the incentive to maintain or increase the value of the relationship.
All faculty for this continuing education activity are competent in the subject matter and qualified by experience, training, and/or preparation for the tasks and methods of delivery.
Faculty presentations may include discussion of off-label use. Faculty will disclose that the use in question is not currently approved by the FDA per the product labeling.
