New Systemic Treatment Options for Hepatobiliary Cancers

In recent years, multiple treatment options were added for the first-line treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma as well as for first- and subsequent-line treatment of biliary tract cancers. As molecular profiling can help identify eligibility for more targeted clinical trials or therapies, physicians should consider gene testing. Knowledge of the new therapies will help better inform clinical decision-making.

Target Audience

The program is designed to meet the needs and improve the competence and performance of the interprofessional oncology care team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other relevant health care professionals who manage the care of patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Compare and contrast the differences between systemic therapy options available for first-line treatment of hepatobiliary cancers.
  • Describe how molecular profiling can help better inform clinical decision-making.
  • Identify the different options available for the treatment of hepatobiliary cancers based on the genetic abnormality detected.
