Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Biomarker Testing Recommendations
The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) recommend biomarker testing in eligible patients with metastatic NSCLC based on clinical trial data showing improvement in outcomes when patients with certain biomarkers receive appropriate targeted therapies or immunotherapies. The list of biomarkers is rapidly expanding for which testing is recommended. Testing for MET exon 14 skipping mutations and RET rearrangements was added to the 2020 NCCN Guidelines® for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer based on approval of capmatinib and selpercatinib. There have been six version updates for the 2020 guidelines, including new targeted therapy and immunotherapy regimens. The rapid pace of updates to the NCCN Guidelines for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer makes it challenging for health care providers to stay informed about the newest recommendations. Health care providers need to be aware of the latest NCCN recommendations to improve care for their patients with metastatic NSCLC.
