Archived Monthly Oncology Tumor Boards: Advances in Multidisciplinary Management of Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Advances in the molecular understanding of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have enhanced risk stratification and optimized therapeutic strategies. However, there is still a need for further refinement of current pre- and post-treatment risk stratification processes, and a need for additional treatment options for patients who have unfavorable cytogenetics or experience poor outcomes. Some novel treatment options are associated with improved clinical outcomes and fewer side effects than the conventional standard regimens. In many cases, there are unique adverse effects that require close monitoring and specialized supportive care. Clinicians need to be informed about these therapeutic advances and necessary supportive care precautions to aid in their effective and safe incorporation into clinical practice for the appropriate AML patient subpopulations.
Target Audience
This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
Following this activity, participants should be able to:
- Summarize current therapeutic agents being used in the management of AML.
- Discuss emerging therapeutic agents and associated molecular targets being developed for AML management.
- Review multidisciplinary supportive care considerations for current and emerging AML therapies.
