Mantle Cell Lymphoma: Updates in the Management of Relapsed/Refractory Disease

Treatment options should be individualized for patients with relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). The selection of optimal second-line therapy depends on the age and fitness of the patients as well as the eligibility for transplant. In the absence of standard management, patients with relapsed/refractory MCL, particularly those who are not eligible for transplant, should be referred for participation in prospective clinical trials investigating novel treatment regimens. Given that several ongoing clinical trials are evaluating novel chemotherapy-free treatment options, there will be a paradigm shift in the management of relapsed/refractory disease in the future. It is important to inform clinicians about the emerging treatment options to enable them to make more informed decisions.
