Recorded Presentation from the NCCN Pharmacy Updates: Not Just a Band-Aid: The Impact of Chemotherapy Dose Banding in Infants

Pediatric dosing requires expertise, especially in relation to chemotherapy, agents with a recognized narrow therapeutic index. It is important for health care professionals caring for pediatric patients with cancer to identify challenges in chemotherapy dosing for infants and smaller children, rationales for current dosing recommendations commonly utilized in clinical trials, and the potential impact of BSA-based dose banding in this specific subset of the pediatric patient population.

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists, physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the developmental pharmacokinetic aspects that impact chemotherapy in the infant patient population
  • Identify the challenges associated with chemotherapy dosing in the infant patient population
  • Describe body surface area dose banding and its impact on chemotherapy in the infant patient population
