New Treatment Options for Patients with Bladder Cancer

A number of new treatment options for different stages of bladder cancer are on the horizon, which will make education about the data behind these therapies and how they might be used in clinical practice important. Of interest, a number of treatment options for bacillus Calmette Guérin (BCG)-unresponsive non–muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) are currently being evaluated in clinical trials, and systemic therapy options for muscle-invasive and metastatic disease have rapidly expanded.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the results of recent clinical trials for treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and their potential impact on treatment of BCG-unresponsive disease.
  • Describe new and emerging systemic therapy options for patients with muscle-invasive or metastatic urothelial bladder cancer, and how patient and disease characteristics can guide therapy choice.
  • Review recent NCCN Guidelines updates for the treatment of bladder cancer, and how they may be incorporated into clinical practice.
