Familial/Genetic Leukemia Syndromes: Impact on Patient Care

Hereditary forms of leukemia have been increasingly recognized and may have different management considerations compared with leukemia without hereditary mutations. Clinicians need education regarding which patients with leukemia are candidates for genetic counseling and testing and how the management of patients with known germline mutations is affected. This knowledge will help clinicians provide these patients with optimal care.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of oncologists, hematologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, PAs, and other health care professionals who manage patients with hematologic malignancies.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss various genetic syndromes associated with increased risk for leukemias.
  • Select patients with leukemia who are candidates for genetic counseling and/or testing.
  • Describe the effect a known inherited mutation has on leukemia management decisions.
