How to Optimize Systemic Therapy Outside of the Cancer Center: Best Practices for Managing Anticancer Therapies

The cancer treatment paradigm shift from the use of intravenous drugs administered in a clinical setting to the use of oral therapies that can be self-administered by patients in the home setting, underscores the need for continued research to develop a comprehensive intervention strategy to optimize the use of oral anticancer therapies in the outpatient setting. A multidisciplinary team approach is essential to implement various strategies to maximize the benefits of oral anticancer therapy. Clinicians need to have a better understanding of the unique challenges associated with the use of oral anticancer therapies so that they can effectively communicate the key clinical aspects to their patients throughout the disease course and treatment. Educating clinicians about the various strategies that can be employed to improve the effective delivery of anticancer therapy will enable the incorporation of these strategies into routine clinical practice. 

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the strategies that can be utilized to optimize the use oral anticancer therapies.
  • Identify the resources and requirements needed for the implementation of a treatment plan to improve the use of oral anticancer therapy in outpatient settings.
