Sexual Identity and Function in Patients with Cancer and Survivors

Many cancer survivors of all gender identities and sexual orientations experience survivorship challenges, including challenges regarding sexual function. These concerns are often not addressed appropriately, especially in those who identify as sexual and gender minorities. Healthcare providers should be aware of the challenges experienced by all cancer survivors to better assist them in their survivorship journey. 

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss sexual health and causes of sexual dysfunction in cancer survivors. 
  • Recognize unique challenges in sexual function for cancer survivors who identify as LGBTQ+.
  • Compare and contrast treatment options to manage sexual dysfunction in all cancer survivors.
