Recorded Presentation from the NCCN Pharmacy Updates: Updates on Targeted Therapy for the Treatment of Thyroid Carcinoma
Several targeted therapies have emerged in the treatment of thyroid carcinoma. Pharmacists should be aware of the new data and recommendations for targeted therapies, and how they relate to improvements in clinical efficacy and quality of life. It is also important to be aware of the potential for unique and potentially severe adverse events that can occur with these therapies; therefore, pharmacists should educate patients about the possibility of adverse events and the need to report symptoms to their health care teams to avoid severe complications.
Target Audience
This program is designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists, physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
Following this activity, participants should be able to:
- Summarize the role of emerging targeted therapy in the treatment of thyroid carcinoma.
- Discuss key patient counseling and monitoring considerations for targeted therapies in thyroid carcinoma.
- Apply best practices to manage the adverse events associated with targeted therapies for thyroid carcinoma.
