The Evolving Role of Advanced Practice Providers in Oncology Care

Education on this topic is necessary and timely, particularly as the use of advanced practice providers (APPs) is rapidly expanding. There are a variety of models that practices can use to assign work and allocate resources; however, underutilization can result in employee satisfaction issues, high burnout, and wasted resources. This activity provides guidance and best practices on utilization of APPs.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, PAs, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Review key principles to consider when assembling an interprofessional oncology care team that includes advanced practice providers (APPs).
  • Recognize the importance of fostering relationships between APPs and other members of the interprofessional oncology care team to facilitate collaboration and improve patient outcomes.
  • Discuss strategies to support and empower APPs to pursue professional development and leadership opportunities.
