Managing Post-Treatment Complications for Multiple Myeloma and Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia

As additional, more effective, and novel therapies are added to the repertoire of cancer therapy, there are increasing numbers of cancer survivors, and these survivors are living for longer periods of time from diagnosis. In the case of those diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM), due to the growing number of treatment options and improved supportive care, patients are living longer, and MM is becoming more of chronic disease.  Survivors of hematologic malignancies require specialized and individualized screening for and appropriate management of potential late or long-term treatment-related toxicities. Late and long-term treatment toxicities for those with hematologic malignancies can differ from those with solid tumors given different treatment strategies and utilization of hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the educational needs of oncologists, hematologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, and other health care professionals who manage patients with hematologic malignancies.

Learning Objectives

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify unique late and/or long-term toxicities associated with therapy for multiple myeloma and acute lymphocytic leukemia.
  • Describe appropriate screening for and management of common late and/or long-term toxicities associated with systemic therapy agents used commonly to treat multiple myeloma and acute lymphocytic leukemia.
