NCCN Optimizing Patient Outcomes - When Prognosis Changes from Good to Poor: Treatment Options for Richter Transformation of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
Management of Richter transformation (RT) with conventional chemotherapy is largely met with poor responses and short survival. It is important to understand the role of novel therapies such as targeted agents including BTKis and BCL-2 inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapies. Nearly all the information on RT comes from retrospective analysis and case series with limited data in newly diagnosed CLL patients. An increased understanding of the new therapy options will inspire clinicians to promote clinical trial participation and pave the way for the development of more effective treatments.
Target Audience
This program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician associates and other health care professionals who treat patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
Following this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify and describe the signs, symptoms and risk factors associated with RT, including CLL stage, patient characteristics, and treatment related factors.
- Interpret the clinical trial data for current and emerging treatment options for RT of CLL to aggressive large B-cell lymphoma.
- Recognize the importance of clinical trials in advancing the treatment of RT and understand the current landscape of trials in this area to promote clinical trial awareness and participation.
