Maximizing Benefit, Minimizing Risk: Managing Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Toxicities

The landscape of cancer care has undergone a dramatic shift due to the emergence of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). As more patients become eligible to receive ICIs, it's crucial to recognize the various types of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) that may occur, and know how to implement appropriate management strategies to mitigate toxicities in a timely fashion. Although the majority of irAEs occur within six months of administration, oncology practitioners should also understand that some patients may experience delayed or late-onset irAEs.

Target Audience

This program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize that immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment is associated with a wide spectrum of toxicities.
  • Discuss approaches for timely recognition and management of ICI-related toxicities.
