Oncology in a Global Context: Disparities, Opportunities, and Pathways

In an ASCO Medical Oncology In-Training Exam survey of medical oncology trainees, a large majority (82%) of respondents were unaware of in-country global health experiences in their fellowship program. However, in that same survey, over half (57%) of respondents would choose to have an in-country global health experience during their fellowship if such an opportunity were offered.
Target Audience
This program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses, PAs, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
Following this activity, participants should be able to:
- Examine key social and economic factors that drive cancer disparities worldwide and explore practical strategies to help reduce gaps in care.
- Apply principles of resource-stratified cancer care to develop realistic treatment approaches in settings with limited resources.
- Identify potential career opportunities in global oncology by considering clinical work, research, education, and collaboration with international partners.
