Developments in Systemic Therapy for Soft-tissue and Bone Sarcomas

Due to the rare nature of these malignancies, many clinicians have limited experience in treating patients with sarcoma. Multiple developments have occurred over the past several years in systemic therapy of soft-tissue and bone sarcomas, with new data to guide treatment for specific subtypes of the disease. Healthcare providers need to be aware of these advances to improve the management of their patients with sarcomas.  Evidence-based guidance is critical to ensure that patients are receiving optimal treatment based on the most up-to-date data. The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines (NCCN Guidelines®) Soft Tissue Sarcoma and NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines (NCCN Guidelines®) Bone Cancer play an important role in helping clinicians appropriately tailor systemic therapy to the subtype of sarcoma and treatment setting.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of the interprofessional oncology care team, including: physicians/oncologists, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Following this program, participants should be able to:

  • Review emerging data on systemic therapies for treating sarcomas.
  • Identify recently-approved agents for use in treating certain types of bone and soft-tissue sarcoma.
  • Apply the NCCN Guidelines recommendations when considering systemic therapy regimens for patients.
