Emerging Treatment Options in Advanced Ovarian Cancer
For each of the emerging therapies described (bevacizumab, PARP inhibitors, and HIPEC), the treatment settings, patient selection criteria, and other therapies used in conjunction have varied widely across clinical trials. This has led to much discussion and likely confusion regarding the exact clinical contexts in which these new options should be considered. For PARP inhibitors, there are multiple agents to choose among, but they are not all interchangeable because not all of them have been tested as recurrence therapy. In addition, the role of molecular testing for patient selection for PARP inhibitors depends on the exact treatment context.
This program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.
Following this activity, participants should be able to:
- List combination therapy regimens in which bevacizumab has been tested in advanced ovarian cancer, and important patient selection criteria when selecting among these regimens.
- Describe the treatment settings in which PARP inhibitors have been tested in patients with ovarian cancer, and list the molecular testing needed (if any) for patient for each of these settings.
- List factors for identifying patients with ovarian cancer who may benefit from neoadjuvant therapy with interval debulking surgery and HIPEC.
