NCCN Pharmacy Updates: New Targets in Breast Cancer Therapy

July 28, 2020

Triple-negative breast cancer continues to be labeled with a poor prognosis secondary to the fact that it tends to be more aggressive and poses a greater risk of recurrence. Because it lacks the receptors that many drugs have been designed to target, the standard of practices remains chemotherapy. Therefore, research has been focused on trying to identify other therapeutic targets for which we already have agents or are currently developing agents. Within recent years, BRCA and PD-L1 are being studied in trials as a new avenue for treatment options in these patients. Current evidence demonstrates increased benefit when using these agents either alone or in combination with chemotherapy, respectively.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists, physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

  • Apply the evolving research looking at targeted therapies for hard to treat subsets in this malignancy (i.e. triple negative breast cancer).
