Archived NCCN Tumor Boards: Molecularly Guided Treatment of Adult Gliomas

With the use of genetic and molecular testing, gliomas can be differentiated more accurately in terms of prognosis and, in some instances, response to different therapies. It's crucial to understand the emerging role of genetic and molecular testing in the management of adult gliomas. The timing and choice of treatment including observation, systemic therapy, and radiation therapy (RT) are critical in patients with oligodendroglioma or astrocytoma.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians/oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants/associates, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize differences between IDH-mutant astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma (1p/19q-codeleted and IDH-mutant) and review the role of molecular/genetic characterization of adult gliomas.
  • Describe results from recent clinical trials for patients with newly diagnosed oligodendroglioma or astrocytoma.
  • Discuss timing and choice of appropriate adjuvant treatment options for patients with newly diagnosed oligodendroglioma or astrocytoma.
